VW T2 Type 26
Description
The T2 on offer here stood in a barn on a farm for a very long time and has been expertly restored. The Swiss vehicle was painted in Ferrari red, equipped with a Cagero front axle and fitted with Fuchs replica rims. In combination with the black accents and the beautiful, wood-trimmed loading area, this car makes the hearts of drivers and passers-by beat faster. A good CHF 40,000 was invested in the restoration and the car has rarely been moved since then.
You can find a video of the red VW Transporter at the bottom of this page.

Model history
In 1967, Volkswagen presented the second generation of its Transporter on the market, the VW T2 - Type 2.
The VW T2 was slightly larger and heavier than its predecessor and was now equipped with large windows. The bus version now had a sliding door as standard. The engine, still an air-cooled boxer, took up slightly less space thanks to a flatter design, whereby the power could be increased to up to 70 hp. A 3-speed automatic gearbox was available as an option for this generation for the first time and the payload could be increased to one ton.
A large number of T2 design variants were derived from a total of eight basic types. Customers were able to put together their own passenger or goods transporter (or both in one) from a catalog of optional extras according to their personal preferences.
At first glance, the changed front is immediately noticeable. The T2 now had a curved, continuous windshield and integrated ventilation grille. Hinged windows were an optional extra and the body of the VW T2 grew by 20 cm with the same wheelbase and width.
As in the T1, the continuous dashboard in the interior was made of sheet metal. Now, however, it was decorated with a plastic panel and an instrument insert with speedometer, fuel gauge and clock (the clock was also available as an optional extra). The vehicle was now also equipped with additional air vents, a radio and loudspeaker recess and a glove compartment with lid (also an optional extra).
The VW T2 had a chassis with crank arm suspension at the front and a semi-trailing arm rear axle, i.e. independent suspension on both axles. This gave the car maximum driving stability, comfort and road safety.
The front-wheel drive design offered optimum use of space and the air-cooled rear engine provided excellent traction on almost any surface. Its operational reliability was also legendary, even in tropical heat or arctic cold. In terms of reliability, it was considered indestructible, even under the toughest conditions.
