MG B GT
Description
This MG B GT is a chic little runabout with excellent driving characteristics and the ultimate mechanic's dream. Inexpensive to buy, very robust and easy to maintain, and spare parts are a dime a dozen. A timelessly beautiful classic that was modeled by maestro Sergio Farina (Pininfarina) and became one of his most successful creations. The '73 is also the last model year without the unsightly plastic bumpers.
This example received a completely new engine almost 36,000 kilometers ago in 1991. It is absolutely dry, works perfectly and, in conjunction with the crisp manual gearbox, makes for a surprisingly sporty driving experience. Thanks to its low weight, the 95 hp output from the 1.8 liter four-cylinder engine is easily enough to tackle a mountain pass with ease and a happy grin on your face.
The paintwork looks good for its age. On closer inspection, a slight patina can be seen on the roof and hood and there are also minor rust dents in the usual places. Nothing excessive, but attention should still be paid to the blisters.
All in all, the car is a well-maintained, extremely reliable classic car that will give the new owner a lot of pleasure. A fresh MFK is available on request.

Model history
The MG B GT is a classic British sports car that holds a special place in automotive history. Its story begins in the early 1960s, when MG, a subsidiary of the British Motor Corporation (BMC), wanted to develop a successor to the popular MGA sports car. The result was the MG B, which was launched as a roadster in 1962. The GT variant, a coupé with a fixed roof, followed shortly afterwards and was introduced in 1965.
The MG B GT shared many mechanical components with its roadster, but offered a more refined driving experience with its closed roof. Its development was influenced by market demand for a sporty yet practical sports car that combined the pleasure of open-air driving with the comfort and convenience of a coupé body.
In terms of design, the MG B GT retained the classic British sports car aesthetic with its sleek lines, low-slung profile and distinctive MG grille. The fixed roof increased the rigidity of the chassis and improved handling and structural integrity compared to the convertible version.
The early MG B GT models were powered by a 1.8-liter inline four-cylinder engine, which initially produced around 95 hp. This engine was mated to a four-speed manual gearbox and provided responsive performance and a spirited driving experience typical of British sports cars of the time. Over time, engine specifications and power output were gradually improved to meet evolving performance standards and legal requirements.
The MG B GT quickly gained popularity among enthusiasts and drivers seeking a balance between style, performance and practicality. Its spacious interior, relatively affordable price and timeless design added to its appeal and attracted a wide range of buyers - from sports car enthusiasts to everyday drivers looking for a vehicle that was fun to drive.
By the 1973 model year, the MG B GT had been revised and refined several times. These included improvements to engine performance, interior comfort and safety features. The introduction of the GT V8 variant in 1973 was a notable milestone. It featured a powerful 3.5-liter V8 engine derived from the larger Rover P6 model. The GT V8 offered improved performance and was a popular choice for enthusiasts who craved more power in a compact sports coupe.
In the early years up to 1973, the MG B GT had a loyal fan base and continued to embody the spirit of British sports car design. Its timeless design, appealing driving dynamics and affordable price ensured its enduring popularity and cemented its status as a classic icon of automotive history. Further improvements and variations were developed in the years that followed, but the foundations laid by the early MG B GT models remained a defining legacy for the brand.
