Ford Roadster Hotrod

Description

Get in, drive off, grin: this 1932 Ford Roadster Hotrod is everything a true petrolhead's heart desires. Originally rolled into the world as a modest convertible, this example was lovingly crafted into a genuine hotrod - with everything that goes with it: flat windshield, semi-open engine compartment and, of course, a throaty V8 that makes no secret of its power with its rumbling sound.

The installed and much more reliable French flathead V8 was overhauled 5 years ago together with the gearbox, clutch and brakes. The rod also received a new electrical system, a new aluminum radiator with electric fan, an electronic ignition and a custom-made soft top. The chassis was sandblasted and powder-coated. Not a project, but an honest, rust-free and perfectly tuned classic in excellent condition.

The flathead V8 - officially the „Ford V8“ - was a milestone. It combined performance with low-cost production and easy maintenance. In France, it was later built at Ford SAF in Poissy - often for military vehicles and commercial vehicles. These French Flatheads, as they are known in the scene, are now regarded as popular hot-rod hearts, as they are more robust, have thicker castings and are sometimes fitted with domed heads.

The car starts immediately, runs perfectly, shifts gears crisply and moves surprisingly smoothly. You don't need to think twice when the weather is nice - just get in and cruise carefree - with or without your mother-in-law.

Model history

The 1932 Ford, often incorrectly referred to as the „Model A“ (correct: Ford Model B/18), marked a milestone in American automobile history - and at the same time the beginning of a worldwide movement: the hotrod culture.

The original model, the Ford Model B, was built as the successor to the successful Model A. It was Ford's first production vehicle with a V8 engine - the legendary flathead V8, which at 65 hp was a minor revolution at the time. Henry Ford not only wanted to leave the competition behind, but also make performance accessible to the masses.

The simple chassis, robust engineering and wide availability quickly made the ’32 Ford a favorite of young hobbyists - especially after World War II. GIs, inspired by European racing, began stripping, tuning and personalizing old Fords. This is how the classic hotrod was born.

The characteristic Deuce Coupe body, especially the 5-window version and the convertible, became the epitome of the American hotrod. The so-called „highboy“ style, which dispensed with fenders and placed the body directly on the frame, was particularly popular. These models were often de-chromed, fitted with flames or pinstripes, laid flat and equipped with increasingly powerful engines - from flatheads and small blocks to modern LS engines.

The designers and constructors of the original model are hardly known by name - at the time, Ford worked with internal teams without prominent individual names. But the ’32 design set standards: the grille, the steep front profile, the proportions - all of this became iconic.

To this day, the „Deuce“ (derived from „32“) is the most popular vehicle in the hotrod scene worldwide. It can regularly be seen at trade fairs, in music videos, films (e.g. American Graffiti) and on the road. And every vehicle is unique - built to show character.

The 1932 hotrod on offer here is therefore not just a car - it is the rolling legacy of freedom, individualism and the sound of an era.
