Mercedes-Benz 170S
Description
This Mercedes-Benz 170S from 1950 is not a high-gloss show car, but an authentic representative of the immediate post-war period. In used but healthy condition, it presents itself as an honest classic with patina, character, substance and mechanical solidity.
The body and technology look well cared for without being over-restored. The engine runs well, the gearbox shifts smoothly and the handling is exactly what you would expect from a saloon of this era: quiet, dignified, decelerated.
In this car, stress is a foreign word and the history behind it is a constant and reassuring companion. The look of the four-door is impressive with its curved lines, ivory-colored headlights and the palpable presence of nostalgia.
The 170S was once the upmarket version of the 170 series - more comfortable, better equipped and with a more powerful engine. You can still feel this level today, but in a slightly different way. The doors close with a rich sound, the mechanics are functional but solid and reliable and the interior exudes a classic, upmarket 50s atmosphere.
A vehicle for lovers of historic substance. Not a museum piece - but a ready-to-drive contemporary witness with an honest history.

Model history
The Mercedes-Benz 170S (W136 IV) was one of the most important models for Mercedes-Benz in the immediate post-war period. After the Second World War, the German automotive industry was in ruins. Reconstruction began with proven technology - and the 170 series.
The concept was originally based on the 170V presented in 1936. The robust design with ladder-type frame, independent front suspension and swing axle at the rear proved to be durable and easy to repair. It was precisely these characteristics that made the model ideal for the difficult years after 1945.
In 1949, the 170S appeared as a more luxurious version. It was given a wider track, more comfortable equipment and the four-cylinder engine, which was enlarged to 1.8 liters and produced around 52 hp - a respectable performance for the time. This enabled the saloon to reach speeds of around 120 km/h.
Visually, the 170S was distinguished by more chrome, more elegant lines and a more prestigious appearance. It was not a mass-produced car, but was aimed at entrepreneurs, doctors and civil servants who once again wanted to set an example of stability.
Technically, he deliberately remained conservative. Mercedes relied on the tried and tested rather than experimenting. This strategy secured the brand's reputation in the 1950s as a manufacturer of durable quality vehicles.
The 170S was also the basis for various body variants, including convertibles and special bodies. At a time when mobility was being redefined, it symbolized seriousness and reliability.
Today, well-preserved vehicles are particularly prized. They tell of reconstruction, of an economic new beginning and of German engineering in difficult times.
