Chevrolet Corvette C3
Description
There are Corvettes that you preserve. And there are Corvettes that you live with, modify, drive, and continuously develop. This 1968 C3 belongs uncompromisingly to the second category – and that's precisely what makes it so exciting.
Even visually, the car makes it clear what it's all about: The front has been converted to the later, more aerodynamic version and augmented with a body kit consisting of a front spoiler, rear spoiler, and a distinctive hood. Added to this is the white paint with red flakes and retro stickers – a classic 90s look that is anything but subtle, and precisely why it perfectly suits this vehicle. This Corvette wants to be seen. And it will be.
Under the hood, an optimized 350 small-block V8 works its magic. Originally delivering 355 horsepower, it should now send a solid 400 horsepower to the wheels. Combined with a larger carburetor, higher intake manifold, electronic ignition, headers, and sidepipes, it creates a package that not only delivers performance but also sounds exactly as you'd hope: dry, direct, and with that typical American aggressiveness. Shifting is handled by a 4-speed manual transmission, and an optimized suspension with larger brakes ensures appropriate cornering behavior, perfectly matching the character of this car. This isn't just driving; it's working.
The concept continues inside. Black sports seats with white stitching, a generous sound system, and circular marble-patterned stainless steel trim create a mix of racing, custom car, and 90s show build. In addition, there are various extra switches and gimmicks that show: this car has grown, been changed, and continuously rethought.
Honesty is important here: this Corvette is not perfect. It's not a concours vehicle, not a collector's item in the classic sense, and not a car for someone who counts original screws. A new paint job would do it good, as would a bit of refinement here and there.
The underbody is clean and shows no signs of rust problems. The body kit is actually registered and therefore legally drivable. The Gotti alloy wheels and the loudness of the sidepipes are currently not registered, which is why the Corvette will not be offered with a valid inspection.
This is a car for extroverted drivers, for interested hobbyists, for mechanics, for people with ideas – and for everyone who enjoys not just owning a vehicle, but actively developing it.

Model history
The Chevrolet Corvette C3 is one of the most iconic sports cars in American automotive history – and the 1968 model year marks a decisive turning point. With the third generation, Chevrolet definitively bid farewell to the clean, almost European lines of the C2 and instead opted for a much more expressive, futuristic design language.
The development of the C3 was heavily influenced by the legendary Mako Shark II concept car, which was spearheaded by Bill Mitchell, then head of design at General Motors. Together with designers like Larry Shinoda, a shape emerged that is still considered one of the most defining Corvette silhouettes to this day: a long hood, a short rear, heavily sculpted fenders, and a body line that is more reminiscent of a predator than a classic automobile.
1968 was the first production year for the C3, and also one of its roughest. Many elements were directly adopted from the concept car, which gave the vehicle an enormous visual impact but also led to typical „teething problems.“ That's exactly what makes early C3s so interesting today: they are closer to the original idea than many later, more heavily revised versions.
Technically, Chevrolet stuck to what worked. The base remained a sturdy ladder frame with independent rear suspension, while independent suspension was also used at the front. This combination provided significantly better handling than many other American vehicles of the time, which still relied heavily on solid axles. This made the Corvette not only fast in a straight line but also a serious contender in corners.
From the engine perspective, Chevrolet offered a wide range of small-block and big-block V8 units. Particularly popular were the classic 350 cu in small-blocks and the large 427 cu in big-blocks, which stood for brutal performance. Important note: The Corvette was never just a performance object, but always also an expression of American engineering culture – large displacement engines, comparatively simple technology, and a clear focus on driving pleasure.
Stylistically, the C3 set standards that extended far beyond its own model series. The so-called „Coke Bottle Design“—with its sharply defined waistline and pronounced fenders—became a defining feature of many American vehicles of that era. Details like the retractable windshield wipers and the clearly structured cockpit design also underscored the ambition to create not just a car, but an experience.
Over the years, the C3 has been continuously developed, both technically and visually. This is precisely why an interesting tension arises today: while many vehicles have been preserved as originally as possible, there is an equally strong scene around modified Corvettes. These vehicles build on the expressive basic form of the C3 and reinterpret it – with modern technology, custom modifications, and often significantly increased performance.
And this is precisely where this particular vehicle fits in. It doesn't represent the conservative side of the Corvette world, but rather the creative side. For a time when vehicles weren't just restored, but consciously modified – to make them faster, louder, more eye-catching, or simply more personal.
Today, the C3 therefore has a double meaning. On the one hand, it is a historical symbol of American sports car design. On the other hand, it is a platform that still offers room for individuality today. Hardly any other classic can be interpreted so versatilely without losing its character.
The Corvette C3 has always been extroverted. This one takes that just a bit more seriously – especially in Switzerland.
