Dieses Fahrzeug ist nicht nur ein GT350 Clone sondern ein Nachbau des nur 1’001 Mal gebauten GT350H, der speziell f\u00fcr den Autovermieter Hertz angefertigt wurde. Statt weiss waren alle Fahrzeuge der H-Serie in den Farben des Autovermieters, n\u00e4mlich schwarz und gold, lackiert.<\/p>

Der Wagen wurde in den Jahren 2009 und 2010 in Costa Mesa, Kalifornien durch einen ehemaligen Shelby Mechaniker bis ins kleinste Detail restauriert und von Grund auf dem 350H nachempfunden. Es handelt sich also nicht einfach um eine g\u00fcnstige Kopie, sondern eine perfekte Replica.
Die komplette Karosserie wurde in Trockeneis gebadet und entlackt, damit der Wagen perfekt und wie es sich f\u00fcr eine Nut & Bolt Restauration geh\u00f6rt neu aufgebaut werden kann.<\/p>

Der originale 289er V8 wurde nach Shelby Standard zu einem High Performace Cobra Motor umgebaut. Dazu wurde er auf 302 ci aufgebohrt und mit einem Vierfach-Holley-Vergaser, einer scharfen Nockenwelle, neuen Ventilen, einem F\u00e4cherkr\u00fcmmer, einer Edelstahl Auspuffanlage und einer elektronische Z\u00fcndung gesegnet. Der Motor bringt auf dem Pr\u00fcfstand zwischen 310 und 320 PS. Geschaltet wird mit einem neuen 5-Gang-Getriebe.<\/p>

S\u00e4mtliche f\u00fcr die Restauration ben\u00f6tigten Teile stammen nicht aus einer Reproduktions-Firma, sondern von Ford Classics in Dearborn. 2010 wurde der Shelby in die Schweiz importiert und bei Stephan Bollinger in Z\u00fcrich nach Schweizer Standard perfektioniert.<\/p>

Die komplette Restauration und der Umbau wurden mit Bildern dokumentiert und haben \u00fcber 120’000.- CHF gekostet. Die Dokumentation liegt dem Wagen nat\u00fcrlich bei.<\/p>

Anfang der 60er Jahre gingen Marktanalysen davon aus, dass ein Grossteil k\u00fcnftiger Neuwagenk\u00e4ufer unter 30 Jahre alt sein werden. Diese Generation bevorzugte preiswerte Sportwagen und weil der sportliche Thunderbird, der seit 1955 von Ford angeboten wurde, immer gr\u00f6sser und teurer wurde, musste ein neues Modell her.<\/p>

Der Wagen soll weniger als 2500 Dollar kosten, unter f\u00fcnf Meter lang sein, unter 2500 Pfund auf die Waage bringen und vier Personen sportlich bewegen k\u00f6nnen. Zur Minimierung der Kosten soll der Wagen auf dem bereits vorhandenen Ford Falcon basieren.<\/p>

1962 steht ein Prototyp mit dem Namen Mustang bereit. Der Name stammt von einem legend\u00e4ren US-Kampfflugzeug, der Mustang P-51, ab. Der Wagen war ein Roadster mit Mittelmotor und nur zwei Sitzpl\u00e4tzen. Optisch gab es kaum \u00c4hnlichkeiten mit dem sp\u00e4teren Serienmodell.<\/p>

Nach nur 18 Monaten Planung und Design spuckte das Ford-Werk River Rouge bei Dearborn am 5. M\u00e4rz 1964 bereits die ersten Mustangs aus. Offiziell vorgestellt wurde der Wagen am 17. April und der Ansturm war enorm. \u00dcber 20’000 Kaufvertr\u00e4ge wurden am ersten Tag unterzeichnet.<\/p>

Von Anfang an waren die Karosserieformen Cabrio und das Coup\u00e9 in verschiedenen Motorisierungen erh\u00e4ltlich. Ein 170-ci-Sechszylinder (2.8 Liter) machte den Anfang und den V8 gab es in den Gr\u00f6ssen 260 mit 2fach-Vergaser und 289 mit 4fach-Vergaser sowie als 289 HiPo mit satten 275 PS. Geschaltet wurde manuell mit drei oder vier G\u00e4ngen und den Automaten gab es mit drei G\u00e4ngen. Der 170er wurde wegen mangelnder Leistung noch im selben Jahr durch einen 200-ci-Sechszylinder ersetzt und der 260-ci-V8 wurde komplett aus dem Programm genommen. Der V8 wurde nur noch als 289er angeboten, daf\u00fcr wahlweise mit 2- oder 4fach-Vergaser.<\/p>

In September 1964, the third model variant, the Fastback, was added to the model series.<\/p>

Der GT350, der f\u00fcr das hier angebotene Fahrzeug als Vorbild diente, war das Werk Caroll Shelbys. Sportwagen verkauften sich besonders gut, wenn seriennahe Fahrzeuge an den Wochenenden auf der Rennstrecke dominierten und um diese Werbung zu nutzen, wurde Shelby auf den Plan gerufen.<\/p>

Das Reglement des SCCA verlange f\u00fcr den Rennstreckeneinsatz einen Grosserien-Antrieb und da hatte Ford mit dem 4.7-Liter-V8, genannt K-Code, eine bereits ordentlich kraftvolle Maschine an Lager. Mit wenig Aufwand sorgte Shelby beim Serienm\u00e4ssig verbauten 289er HiPo f\u00fcr etwas mehr Luft und erreichte damit eine Leistung von 306 PS. Die Starrachse des Mustangs wurde durch die st\u00e4rkere Ausf\u00fchrung des Ford Galaxie ersetzt, die hinteren Trommelbremsen wurden vergr\u00f6ssert und vorne taten Scheibenbremsen ihr Werk. Zwecks besserer Gewichtsverteilung wurde die Batterie in den Kofferraum versetzt, die Motorhaube wurde aus leichtem GFK gefertigt und rundum wurde am Gewicht gefeilt. Die R\u00fcckbank war f\u00fcr den Renneinsatz ohnehin nutzlos.<\/p>

Das SCCA-Reglement verlangte, dass mindestens 100 St\u00fcck dieser modifizierten Fahrzeuge gebaut werden m\u00fcssen und Ford konnte 1965 satte 562 St\u00fcck ausliefern.
