Morris Cooper Mk2 1000

Description

This little runabout is one of around 7,500 Morris Mini Cooper 1000 MkIIs that were only built between 1968 and 1969. The car was completely restored from the ground up, bolt by bolt, by a specialist workshop. Great emphasis was placed on originality - a rare restoration of the highest quality.

The Mini was completely dismantled and sandblasted. The paintwork was then rebuilt inside and out and the entire vehicle was cavity-sealed. It was painted in the original Morris colors of red and black. Everything that is not new on this car was restored to new condition at great expense. For example, the AMM rims, which were turned, repainted and fitted with new tires. Slight signs of wear can only be found on the dashboard, which was deliberately left in its very well-kept original condition.

The engine was dismantled into its individual parts and received a modern SW5 camshaft and a reinforced duplex chain during the rebuild. The revised and newly synchronized gearbox has been fitted with a new clutch to match and is now looking forward to sending the power of the lively little four-cylinder engine to the front with maximum torque.

If you're looking for a genuine Mini MkII that has no flaws whatsoever and will keep rust at bay for decades to come with regular care, this is the car for you. The Cooper has been properly run in since its completion and is now waiting, better than new, for unknown adventures beyond our workshop.

Detailed documentation on the restoration is available. The current insurance value of the rare Mini is a whopping CHF 70,000, which is far below the investment in the vehicle and far above the sale price.

Model history

The British Motor Corporation (BMC) unveiled a revolutionary new small car in 1959. Two models were presented: The Morris Mini-Minor and the Austin Seven. Plenty of interior space with the smallest possible external dimensions, room for four occupants, impeccable driving characteristics, low fuel consumption and a low price - these were the specifications set by the company management and followed by the Mini's creator, designer Alec Issigonis.

With the launch of the Classic Mini, Alec Issigonis had fulfilled his mission. The Morris Mini-Minor and the Austin Seven, which differed only in their radiator grille, hubcaps and body colors, were powered by a transverse four-cylinder engine with a displacement of 848 cubic centimeters and an output of 34 hp. They achieved identical performance and each offered 195 liters of storage space in the trunk. The Mini was praised from all sides for its driving performance, spaciousness and fuel consumption.

Towards the end of 1961, a variant appeared that was to shape the legend of the Classic Mini like no other: the Mini Cooper. Sports car designer John Cooper, who had a close friendship with Alec Issigonis, had already recognized the sporting potential of the new small car during the creation of the first prototypes. With the blessing of the company management, he developed a small series of the Mini Cooper, whose modified engine had a displacement of 997 cubic centimeters and generated a whopping 55 hp. In 1964, the displacement of the Cooper was increased to 998 cubic centimeters while maintaining the same power output.

In 1967, the classic Mini was ready for a thorough overhaul. It was given a more powerful engine with a displacement of 998 cubic centimeters and an increased output of 38 hp. The Mark II was born and one year later all models were only offered with a synchronized gearbox.

The story of the Mini goes much further, but this is the end of the line for the companion on offer here
