MG B GT

Description

This MG B GT from 1974 presents itself in excellent, restored condition and combines British sportiness with everyday elegance. Painted in classic white, the coupé looks timeless, stylish and surprisingly modern in its lines.

Technically, the car is in excellent condition. The engine, transmission and chassis are clean and reliable. The 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine runs powerfully, revs up willingly and delivers exactly the throaty, mechanical sound you would expect from a British classic.

The MG B GT differs from the Roadster with its fixed roof and the striking rear section in the style of a Shooting Brake. This not only creates an elegant silhouette, but also genuine everyday usability with practical load space.

The restoration was carried out professionally. The interior, paintwork and technology convey a very harmonious overall impression. An ideal vehicle for newcomers to the world of classic sports cars - uncomplicated, charming and with increasing demand on the market.

An honest classic with style and substance. You can find a video of the MG at the bottom of this page.

Model history

The MG B GT was launched in 1965 as a closed version of the successful MG B Roadster and quickly became one of the most popular British sports cars of its time.

The GT was designed in collaboration with Pininfarina, which gave it very elegant lines by British standards. The large rear window and flowing roofline in particular made the GT a stylistic highlight.

Technically, the GT was based on the proven MG B Roadster. At its heart was the 1.8-liter in-line four-cylinder engine from the B series with around 95 hp in early versions, later slightly adapted. The chassis with independent front suspension and rigid rear axle was robust and provided a direct, honest driving experience.

In the 1970s, the distinctive rubber bumpers were introduced due to US safety regulations. Today, these versions are considered a separate era within the series.

The MG B GT was never a high-performance sports car. Its appeal lay in its balance: sufficient power, good handling, compact dimensions and high reliability. This is exactly what made it an affordable sports car for a broad range of buyers.

The MG B GT was produced until 1980, and with over 125,000 units built, it is significantly rarer than the Roadster - which makes it particularly interesting today.

Its sound is unmistakable: a throaty four-cylinder sound with mechanical directness. No exaggerated noise, but an authentic classic engine sound.

Today, the MG B GT is considered the ideal entry into the world of classic sports cars - solid spare parts availability, simple technology and timeless design.
