BMW 3.3 L

Description

A vehicle that made history and rebuilt the BMW brand with a sporty image: The E3 - the first ever BMW with the model designation «E». The E3 impressed in the luxury saloon class with its performance, driving dynamics and luxury. The euphonious M30 six-cylinder engine, which the well-heeled Mercedes W116 could hear in the right-hand lane, was a bonus.

This example is an unrestored survivor that has simply been driven and looked after by both owners over the years. There is no external patina, as the car was repainted 8 years ago. At the same time, it was fitted with a replacement engine and gearbox because the original engine was struggling with a defective cylinder head gasket. The original engine with gearbox and still with a defective cylinder head gasket is still present.

The invoices and receipts date back to 1985 and show that only original BMW parts have been used as spare parts in the car to this day. The technical condition is very good and the underbody is also rust-free. The reason for this is an excellent sealant that still keeps rust away from the car today.

The car is unrestored and tells its story with easily visible signs of use in the interior. The paintwork is beautiful, but after 8 years it also has a few short stories to tell.

The 3.3 liter six-cylinder engine purrs sonorously and continues to develop its full power even after 50 years. The acceleration and handling speak for themselves today as they did then and make every drive an experience. Comfortable seats and very clear dashboards in conjunction with the old Blaupunkt radio ensure a cozy feeling inside. The automatic transmission works and shifts gears flawlessly.

If you are looking for a piece of automotive history that combines luxury and performance and is also suitable as a daily driver, you can't go wrong with this car.

Model history

The BMW 3.3 L E3 was introduced in 1971 and represented a further development of the previous models. With a clear vision of combining comfort and performance, the E3 positioned itself as an elegant vehicle for the upper middle class. The E3 was based on the 2500/2800 model, but received numerous improvements in design and technology.

The design of the E3 was characterized by the typical BMW aesthetic of the time: a long hood, a low roofline and restrained, elegant lines. The body was designed by Giovanni Michelotti and represented a clear break with the conservative forms of its predecessors. The wide fenders and striking radiator grille gave the vehicle a sporty presence that radiated both appeal and dynamism.

The BMW 3.3 L E3 was equipped with a 3.3-liter inline six-cylinder engine that delivered exceptional performance values for the time. With around 200 hp and a maximum torque of 280 Nm, the E3 accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in less than ten seconds. This combination of performance and precise handling was characteristic of BMW and established the brand as a manufacturer of sporty vehicles.

The interior of the E3 was designed with the driver in mind and offered a high level of comfort and quality. The interior was characterized by high-quality materials and well thought-out ergonomics. Special features were the comfortable seats, the wood finish and the intuitive arrangement of the controls. The E3 was also one of the first vehicles to offer air conditioning as an option, which further increased comfort in this class.

The BMW 3.3 L E3 quickly became very popular, not only in Germany but also internationally. The E3 became a symbol of status and elegance and was popular with business people and wealthy individuals alike. With its combination of performance, comfort and stylish design, the E3 won over many customers and contributed significantly to BMW's growth during this period.

Over the course of its production period, the E3 underwent several technical updates that further improved its performance and reliability. These included improved brakes, chassis modifications and a finer tuning of the engine. These further developments ensured that the E3 always remained competitive compared to its rivals.

Production of the BMW 3.3 L E3 ended in 1975 when BMW introduced its successor, the E12. Nevertheless, the E3 left a lasting impression in automotive history. Today it is considered a classic and is prized by collectors. Its combination of sporty performance, elegant design and high build quality make it a timeless symbol of the BMW philosophy.
