GMC Vandura

Description

The GMC Vandura, known worldwide thanks to the A-Team and just as reliable and unbreakable as this one. The decent payload and the reliable and easy-to-repair technology made the vehicle the preferred workhorse for all kinds of companies and state-owned enterprises. The luxurious top version was also popular with campers and large families.

One of these luxury models is this 1990 GMC Vandura. The wood appliqués and cabinets, the absurdly comfortable armchair-like seats with armrests and the enormous amount of space are just the obvious details. In addition, the van was equipped with two climate zones, two music zones, radio, cruise control and the high-performance 5.7-liter Chevy small-block.

The car was imported by the owner in 1990, registered in 1992 and has been regularly driven and serviced since then. In 2020, the engine was replaced at 171,200 km (less than 2,500 kilometers old) and the 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive was overhauled at the same time. The costs for this amounted to a good CHF 15,000. Corresponding invoice documents are of course available. In 2021, the starter was replaced and now the car is more than ready to serve its new and second owner faithfully and reliably.

The underbody is free of rust, the original paintwork is still in good condition and the original interior also makes a very well-kept impression. In addition to the currently fitted set of wheels, there is also a complete set of 90s tuning Eagle chrome rims.

Model history

The GMC G-Van was produced in three model generations from 1964 to 1996. The third generation was the longest running and most associated with the Vandura name. The van gained enormous notoriety through a tuned 1983 GMC Vandura - the A-Team Bus.

The first and second generation of G-Vans were known as the GMC Handi-Van or Handi-Bus. The first generation was more similar to the classic Econoline and the Dodge A100, while the second was modeled on the old VW bus models.

1971 was the year in which GMC marketed the most luxurious equipment line of the G-series vans under the name „Vandura“. In this year, the body of the G van was also fundamentally redesigned and the engine, again similar to the Econoline, was introduced. These very reliable and spacious models also became very popular with van converters, who turned them into commercial vehicles, motorhomes and many other conversions - there were virtually no limits to the versatility of the van.

Over the years, only minor changes have been made to the GMC Vandura. The main improvements have been made in line with evolving safety standards, fuel economy and to improve economies of scale. Although minor cosmetic changes have always been made to keep up with modern styles, the GMC Vandura has retained much of its appearance since the redesign in the 1970s.

The Vandura and the Chevy vans were discontinued in 1996 and replaced by the Savana and the Express.
