Ford Mustang GT Convertible
Description
This fourth generation Mustang comes out of the garage as a powerful GT and presents itself in the rare color «Pacific Green». The car with the designation SN95 or Fox4 is in a very well-kept condition and works perfectly. The engine purrs as it should and, thanks to very good maintenance and care, effortlessly delivers the racy little horses with which it was delivered in 1998.
The car was bought ten years ago by a genuine petrolhead family and was regularly driven and maintained. At home in a garage box, it was only moved in good weather and was brought out of hibernation every spring for servicing and oil changes.
Of course, the Mustang has also undergone a few upgrades over the years:
In 2015, the chassis was fitted with PU bushes all round, the ignition was given new coils, cables and plugs and the exhaust system was replaced with a stainless steel version. The headlights were replaced in 2018 (the original ones are included), and the brakes were completely replaced in 2021. This was just under 2,000 kilometers ago and included all brake hoses, brake discs and brake shoes.
The car also comes with some service material and a new, black convertible top including rear window.
You can find a video about the Mustang at the bottom of this page.
A brief look at the production figures:
In 1998, a whopping 175,522 Mustangs were produced, of which only 17,024 were GT Convetrible and only 9,929 in the color ’Pacific Green’. It can therefore be assumed that fewer than 1,000 convertible GTs left the factory in Dearborn in the green metallic color.
This vehicle has already been sold.
Model history
In 1994, 30 years after the launch of the first Mustang, the fourth Mustang generation was introduced. The car is referred to as the SN95 and, because of its platform, also as the Fox4. The new model brought a completely new body design and only two new body variants: The notchback and fastback were combined into one coupe and there was also the convertible. The new body design once again featured the familiar C-curve on the flanks and the pony in the radiator grille. All trim strips were removed, the rear tail lights were integrated flush into the bodywork and the tradition introduced in 1987 with the integrated Mustang lettering in the rear bumper was retained. A major change was the replacement of the unpopular 4-cylinder engine with a 3.8 liter V6 engine. The GT sports package could be ordered for both the Coupe and the Convertible and included the familiar 5.0 liter V8 engine. A special option was the removable hardtop for the convertible, which was only available in 1994 and 1995 and was only ordered around 500 times.
The SVT Cobra option was available for the Coupe and Convertible and included a front skirt with integrated fog lights, the Cobra emblem, a separate rear spoiler with integrated brake light, an improved chassis and an upgrade to the V8 engine, which added 25 hp.
In 1995 there were two new options, the GTS and Cobra R complemented the basic V6 model, the GT V8 and the SVT Cobra. The GTS was a base model equipped with the V8 engine, transmission and rear axle of the GT model, as well as 16-inch sports wheels. The Cobra R, available only in Crystal White, was equipped with a 300 hp 5.4L V8 racing engine and an improved suspension. A few convertibles were again supplied with the optional hardtop in 1995.
In 1996, the rear lights were given a vertical design and under the hood, the new 4.6 liter V8 replaced the ageing 5.0 liter eight-cylinder engine. The new engine produced 215 hp in the GT and a whopping 305 hp in the Cobra model.
In 1997, the Pony was given an improved cooling system and a correspondingly larger radiator opening. All models were equipped with an anti-theft system, which was already available for the GT and Cobra models in 1996. A thicker automatic lever was also available for all models. The GT was fitted with new 17-inch alloy wheels with grey-metallized hub caps. The special colors «Bright Tangerine» and «Mystic» were replaced by the colors «Aztec Gold», «Autumn Orange» and «Pacific Green».
For the 1998 Mustang model year, the engines were slightly modified and had a little more power and the interior was adapted so that all models could be equipped with a clock, stereo radio and CD player. The SVT Cobra got new 17×8 inch aluminum wheels.
